The purpose of this study are to examine experiences that EAP (Employee Assistance Program) managers have during the processes of EAP operation and to deepen understanding of the meaning of the experience. For this purpose, the phenomenological method of Giorgi(2004) was applied to explore the EAP counseling experience of 11 EAP managers (2 males and 9 females from 11 companies) in small and medium businesses. As a result, seven components, 42 subcomponents, and 177 conceptualized semantic units were found. The components include ¡®momentum for introducing EAP¡¯, ¡®various expectations for EAP counseling effect¡¯, ¡®positive performance of EAP counseling¡¯, ¡®importance of EAP staff role¡¯, ¡®difficulty of EAP administration¡¯, ¡®importance of organizational perception on counseling¡¯, and ¡®strategies for effective management of EAP counseling¡¯. In other words, as EAP managers start EAP operation, it has various expectations about the EAP counseling effect. As the operation continues, it experiences the positive performance of EAP counseling and the difficulty of EAP operation. Through these processes, it begins to understand the importance of recognition from organization¡¯s acceptance of EAP counseling, and to use various strategies. The implications of these results were discussed.
